気分転換で今回は英文を書き出します。

Filial Piety Moving Heaven to Sympathy
（孝感動天）
Emperor Shun, the son of Ku So, of the Yu
dynasty was veryfilial in nature; but his father
obstinate, his mather ill-tempered, and his
younger brother Shang haughty. When Emperor
Shun tilled the field ati Li Shan, an elephant
came to plow for him, and the bird him weed.
Such was the reward he got from filial piety.
Upon learning of this Emperor Yao there-
upon sent nine of his sons to serve him gave
both of his daughters to him in marriage, and
finally left him throne.

瞽叟の子である舜帝は、非常に親孝行な性格の持ち主であった。
父は頑固で、母は短気で、弟の象は傲慢であった。
舜が歴山の畑を耕すと象が来て耕し、鳥が来て草を刈りました。
このように彼は親孝行で報われたのです。
このことを知った尭帝は9人の息子を派遣し、彼に仕えさせた。
娘二人を嫁がせ、そして、ついに皇帝の座を去りました。

二十四孝の書籍で英文は新鮮。こうして漢文と英文を並べてみると、漢文はわずか50字ちょっとで上記の英文に匹敵する内容を伝えているわけですね。そう考えると漢字って便利ね。
机の脇には漢字・古語・英和の辞書が揃い踏み～。
