奥さんと水辺で和やかに談笑する姜詩。水面には魚が二匹飛び跳ねています。室内にいると思われる母親の姿は描かれていませんが、奥さんが汲んだ水は母親のため。魚もこれから捕まえられて捌かれ、母親の食卓へ。

Bubbling Fountain and Jum Ping(Jumping?) Carp
Chiang Shih of the Han dynasty served his
father very faithfully. His wife P'ang served
his mother-in-law with more care. His mother
was fond of drinking water from the river,
which was about siz(six?) or sevn(seven?) li from his house.
Thither his(she?) went to draw the water for her
mother-in law.
Mother was also fond of minced fish that was
rften(often?) prepared by her son and daughter-in-law;
and as she was unable to take it alone, the
couple had to invite the neigh-bouring mothers
to share it with her.
By the house, there suddenly appeared the
bubbling up spring, which tasted as sweet as the
river water, and in which were found two carps
a day to be offered to Chiang's mother.

湧泉踊鯉（泉湧きて鯉踊る）
後漢の代に姜詩といへる人 母に孝あり 妻はホウ盛といふ人の娘也 この妻姑につかへてよくつくしめり 母うまれつき江水をのまんことをこのめり
妻六七里の遠きにいたりて汲て母に与ふ 母魚の膾をこのむ 夫婦つねにつとめて なますをつくり 母にそなへ 隣家の姥をもよびて母と供にくはしむ 家のかたはらに にはかにいづみわき出たるか 味ひ江水のごとし 此水中より朝ごとに二つの鯉踊り出たり この水と魚とをもつておこたらず母にそなへたりと也
