Finger-biting Causing Heart-ache
Tseng Shun, alias Tze Yu, of the Chou State
served his mother with all faith fulness. One
day, when he was out cutting wood among the
moutnains'(mountains?) there came a visitor to his house.
His mother became perplexed but, after awai-
ting her son's return in vain, bit hit her finger,
thus causing Shun's heart-ache all of a sudden.
With a burden of wood, Shun was on the way
home, and, on arrival, knelt down to ask his
mother about it. In reply, she said, "Here is a
visitor who needs you urgently so I bit my
finger to awake you to come back."
with faithfulness・・・忠実に
perplexed・・・当惑した、途方に暮れた
await・・・待つ(wait for より文語的)
