To Amuse His Parents by Playing Varingated(Variegated?) Colours
Lao Lai-tzu of the Chou dynasty was very
faithful to his father and mother, whom he
served with sweet delicacies.
When he was seventy years of age, he never
looked upon himself as an old man. He often
put an five-coloured clothes with beautiful
stripes and danced like a funny little boy
before his parents.
Sometimes he would carry water and walk
up to the hall. Pretending to have got a fall,
he would cay(cry?) as it(if?) he were a baby, which
aroused the delight of his father and mother.
戯彩娯親「戯彩（ぎさい） 親をたのしましむ」
周の老莱子は父と母にとても忠実で、甘いご馳走を与えた。
70歳になっても、自分を老人と思ったことはない。よく五色の美しい縞の服を着て、両親の前でおかしな子供のように踊っていた。
時々、水を運んできては、お堂まで歩いていく。転んだふりをして、まるで赤ん坊のように泣くので、父や母は大喜びである。

周の世に老莱子といへる人は楚国の人なり いたつて親によくつかへたりと也 二人の親に食をすすむるに 甘脆（かんぜい）の物をゑりてたてまつりしとなり・・・(初頴日記故事・17）
古文で書いてあるとなんとなく偉い人のように思えてしまうけれど、現代文に直すと単なる変な人ね。
